About the Foundation

Mission and Vision

Yuba Community College District Foundation’s purpose, within the mission of the Yuba Community College District, is to seek, manage and administer funds for the betterment of student-centered programming and services at the five primary educational facilities that comprise the district. Yuba Community College District and its Foundation will thereby enhance its communities though support of this region’s student.

As the Yuba College Foundation in 1972 and was granted tax-exempt status by both the state of California and the United States internal revenue service. In 2014 the foundation was renamed the yuba community college district foundation in recognition of the district becoming a multi-college district

foundation’s founding board of directors

reflected the District’s service area at the time, emphasizing Yuba, Sutter, and Colusa counties. This 1972 Board included many of the most distinguished leaders of these communities: John Lamon, Don Huckins, Algeo Brill and Paul Heilmann from Marysville; Jack Sullivan, Thomas Gianella, Jr., Theodore George, Dr. Daniel Walker from Yuba City and Peter Dwyer from Colusa.

Throughout the 1970s

the District grew to include campuses in Woodland and Clearlake, and the Foundation Board included individuals to represent their communities. The bylaws of the Foundation specify that there are 16 members on the board, two representatives of the District’s Governing Board, four District Administrators, five individuals representing Colusa, Lake, and Yolo counties, and five individuals representing Sutter and Yuba counties.

A Memorial Gift

In the late 1970s, a Memorial Gift in the name of a regional agriculturalist, Harold Sawtelle, provided an endowment of more than $1.5 million dollars from which the Foundation’s investments would be able to generate annual scholarships. By the mid-1990s, in addition to the Sawtelle gift, there were 33 additional endowed funds established in the Foundation to support programs, student service and scholarships at the various campuses throughout Yuba Community College District.

Over the Years

Over the years, hundreds of additional, short-term scholarships have been named in support of academic programs throughout the District. Additionally, funds have been donated to support such projects as campus beautification, Laboratory Equipment, Faculty/Staff mini-grants, Athletic Programs, Cultural Events, the Libraries, Disabled Students, the Food Services Program, Law Enforcement, Music, and The Arts, and Student Emergency Relief.
